An anime puts the viewer in front of the events. A game may ask him to act within them. This is the bet of EVANGELION: Δ CROSS REFLECTIONS, extended reality (XR) project based on Neon Genesis Evangelion. The developer Pixelity released a new teaser on September 29, 2026, after showing it off at a guest presentation in San Francisco. The video draws attention to a bigger question than "what will the next game look like?": what changes when the audience stops watching Evangelion and starts to occupy a place in its history?
Pixelity plans Three games to scroll through the timeline of the 26 episodes of the TV series. CROSS REFLECTIONS is the First part, centered on events from episodes 1 to 11, with an original plot that intersects with the known work. The release of this first part, previously scheduled for 2026, has been postponed to 2027. There is still no confirmed day and month.
You join NERV, but you don't replace the characters from the anime
According to the official presentation of Pixelity, the player takes the point of view of an aspiring NERV officer who dreams of piloting an Evangelion. He meets places and characters from the series, but also meets people created for the game. The proposal is to follow family events from another angle and participate in a story that takes place alongside them.
This choice avoids turning the game into a simple repetition of the episodes. For those who already know the series, curiosity becomes how their own actions fit into recognizable moments. For those who don't, the role of a newcomer to NERV can work as a gateway. It has not yet been demonstrated whether the player's decisions will change central events of the anime or open up different narrative paths. Pixelity talks about choices and interactions, but these details depend on the final version.
The company describes two modes: one focused on history and the other on battles in a NERV simulation. Also showed hand tracking on development material. This suggests an experience that asks for more than looking around; the weight of these interactions in the narrative, however, can only be evaluated when the game is available for extensive testing.
XR, VR, AR, and MR: What's the difference?
XR, or extended reality, is the umbrella name for experiences that combine the physical environment and digital elements. O Meta's technical glossary distinguishes three common ways:
| Technology | What the user sees | Example to understand the idea |
|---|---|---|
| VR (Virtual Reality) | A digital environment occupies the vision in place of the world around it. | Be inside a virtual version of NERV headquarters. |
| AIR (augmented reality) | Digital elements appear over the view of the real environment. | View virtual information on the table at home. |
| MR (mixed reality) | Digital elements are combined with the physical space and can react to it. | A virtual object appears to be resting on the table and respects its edges. |
The examples explain the technologies; they are not confirmed scenes or features of the game. Pixelity reported that it develops CROSS REFLECTIONS with VR and MR. This does not mean that each scene will have both versions, nor that any XR device will be compatible. The difference matters because "entering the story" can mean visiting an entirely virtual setting or bringing part of it into the player's space — experiences with distinct narrative effects.
What the new teaser reveals and what remains to be known
O Teaser released by the project's official profile It is useful to realize that the proposal alternates everyday situations and moments of action. It is worth watching it with this question in mind: does the video show only recognizable places or does it give clues about what the player will do in them? A UploadVR, which analyzed the images, points out that the material is Pre-release and may differ from the final product.
Practical information is also lacking. Pixelity has not yet confirmed the final list of devices, the price, the exact date of 2027 or how the three parts will be distributed. Therefore, it is not possible to say that a specific headset will run the game. The trilogy is a production plan; the other two parts do not have a detailed release.
For TecEdi, the most interesting test will come when it is possible to play: being close to well-known characters in 3D is impressive, but an immersive adaptation gains strength when What you do in this space also helps tell the story. Until then, the teaser presents Pixelity's ambition; it still doesn't demonstrate on its own whether it has been achieved.
